SFF-8024 — code tables
SFF-8024 is the shared registry of coded values that other specifications point to. It does not describe a module's memory layout; instead it assigns the meaning of many one-byte codes used across SFF-8472, SFF-8636 and CMIS.
What it defines
- Identifier values — the byte that says what kind of module this is (SFP, QSFP+,
QSFP-DD, OSFP and so on).
- Connector types — LC, MPO, RJ45 and the rest.
- Encoding and cable technology codes.
- Host and media interface codes — the electrical and optical interfaces a module supports.
Why a shared table
Because these codes live in one place, every specification and every tool interprets them the same way. When a new module type or connector is introduced, it is registered here once and the other specs reference it.
